ACTUALLY.... .going back a few months when Romney was questioned about illegal
immigration, his immediate solution was "self-deportation" - let the 11 million immigrants just turn around and go back to where they came from. Well, now we read that at the Texas state GOP convention last week the Republicans blamed the "decades-long failure of the federal government to secure our borders and address the immigration issue". Now, the GOP proposes a "national temporary worker program", that's the good news - but only for periods where no U.S. workers are available. That's the bad news. The program would be self-funded through fees and fines, require a criminal background check and show proficiency in English. O.K. How many illegal immigrants are there that would be proficient in English? This program would fine those applicants with prior immigration violations, not really stating what those violations would be. In my humble opinion those fines would probably be more than the poor immigrant could afford. Guess what would happen then? You got it - adios amigo.
President Obama has been trying to get the Senate to pass a program designed to provide a fair path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. The
"Dream Act" would grant permanent legal status only to undocumented
immigrants brought here before the age of 16 - and even then only to
those who spent 2 years in college or in the military. Don't you think
that innocent children would make support of "The Dream Act" an easy
call. Well, think again! The Republican's find fault and criticize
every legislative effort to help these immigrants. In the 2010 Senate
session, "The Dream Act" failed.
In his
third State of the Union speech The President said he wants comprehensive federal immigration reform. But if that's not possible, he at the very least wants to give citizenship to children of
illegal immigrants that qualify per his "Dream Act". In his words: "If election-year politics keeps Congress from acting on a
comprehensive plan, let’s at least agree to stop expelling responsible
young people who want to staff our labs, start new businesses, and
defend this country. Send me a law that gives them the chance to earn
their citizenship. I will sign it right away".
Why doesn't the Mexico born Romney just self-deport back to Mexico? Then he would know the importance of leaving.

IMMIGRATION
ACTUALLY, this is an extremely volatile subject. Please consider what I write as only my opinion.
I have a deep feeling for all those who want to escape from living in unacceptable poverty and unimaginable poor living conditions. Those of you who have visited the Mexican border cities couldn't help but come away disgusted at the conditions. The best those individuals could hope for is to somehow find a better place to live. There are Hispanics that have saved their hard earned money for years only to give it to dishonest criminals in order to cross the Rio Grande, the conditions are deplorable and some loosing their life in doing so. Except for the very few, all they want is to live in clean surroundings, go to school and find a job to support their families. Don't misunderstand, I agree that crossing a state border illegally is just that "illegal". I do however believe that there are appropriate and suitable ways to handle these immigrants.
- Arizona is trying to pass legislation that "requires local police officials to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws if 'reasonable suspicion' exists that the person is in the U.S. illegally.
- Provision authorizing police to arrest immigrants without warrant where 'probably cause' exists that they committed any public offense making them removable from the country.
- A section making it a state crime for 'unauthorized immigrants' to fail to carry registration papers and other government identification.
- A ban on those not authorized for employment in the U.S. to apply, solicit or preform work. That would include immigrants sanding in a parking lot who 'gesture or nod' their willingness to be employed."
The state of Arizona has gone too far - they have no authority to require police to check immigration status.
Now, the enormous question - what do we do with them after they arrive on U.S. soil. The state-side demographics are changing rapidly. The Hispanic population is growing, while the Caucasian population is shrinking. There have been several suggestions, from one of our Republican Presidential nominees.
Self Deportation because immigrants can find better work by going home (Oh my, what an idea that was).
The next step is to stand in line, but where the line is he didn't say, and should they ever reach the front of the line, guess what? They can come to the U.S. No credit for going to school, being here with family or serving in the Military.
On the other hand, we have a President with an option that would be "good for our economy, good for our security, good for our nation" and certainly good for the young people who want to come to the U.S. It's called the DREAM ACT. " It only applies to young people who are already in the U.S. who were brought here as children". Look it up and read for yourself what a fantastic proposal this is.
