ROMNEY - THE OLYMPIC SAVIOR

ACTUALLY..... Were you aware that Mitt Romney saved the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City?  His campaign says the event was "on the verge of collapse" and Romney "salvaged" it from "certain disaster".  It's been said that Romney overstated the Games budget problems to cast himself as a savior.  Those in charge  felt the reason Mitt was there was because he was going to run for Governor and needed the press.  He believes his Olympic experience is one of his career's greatest accomplishments.

Pro-Romney Super-PAC Restore our Future spent $7.2 million to buy an ad touting his Olympic success.  Missing from the ad, as well as Romney's story, is how the 2002 Olympics was restored through $342 million in direct federal funding and an additional $1.1 billion in indirect financing from Washington.  Mitt Romney ran the world's most expensive Olympic Games in history - all on the federal dime.

As president of the Olympic Committee, Romney organized the most "elaborate" and expensive opening in history - that only cost $37 million. Romney used taxpayer money to pay for Salt Lake City parking lots, sewer systems and even an Olympic horse adoption program.  (Really, a horse adoption program???)  Romney admitted at the time that some of these unnecessary projects were not "must-haves" for the Olympics, but he has bragged about the "record amount of money" he received from taxpayers.  He refers to his leadership (?) as an indication that he's the only candidate voters can trust to spend taxpayer money wisely.  (HaHaHa) He made a point of going after other Republican primary contenders for wasteful spending.  Romney's spending that federal money in 2002, will certainly earn him a place on the 2012 list of unaccountable Republicans.

Mitt Romney didn't save the 2002 Olympics - the American taxpayer did!!
